Football Is Back!!! Part 2: The NFL

The NFL season is underway. Hope springs eternal (or at least for 2 weeks) for the fans of the 32 NFL franchises. As has become traditional, the Defending NFL champs open the season on Monday Night at home. Tonight, the Giants (-4) hosted the Redskins. As I've said before, I think the Giants are facing trouble this season given their personnel losses, but I did pick them to win and cover tonight since they whole Super Bowl vibe will be on their side.

Sure enough, the Giants looked strong to semi-dominant tonight. They didn't totally blow the doors off the Skins but they were in control the whole game, winning 16-7 (its a cover!). The Redskins, on the other hand, looked awful. Head Coach Zorn's debut was a mess. His team sucked at the hurry up offense, couldn't tackle properly, had protection issues and generally looked like a bunch of players thrown together lacking the cohesion which makes teams good. If they don't get their heads on straight they are headed straight for the division cellar. On the other hand, this is standard MO for the Skins, sucking bad and then getting hot later in the year, so it may be too soon to call them DOA. Though I'm sure there are plenty of Maryland, DC, and Virginia Residents who are drinking heavily tonight. More heavily, I mean. If that's possible.

On a non football note, apparently I'm not the only one who was so pissed off by Sarah Palin's speech that I gave Money to the Obama campaign. In the last 24 hours the campaign has raised a reported $10 million, which I believe is an all time one day record for political fundraising. The Republicans responded too, with a hefty $1 million in fundraising following her speech. By hefty, I mean sad, weak and pathetic. Or as Republicans would say: "Democratic". Since macho meathead posturing and insults is all they have left. Enjoy your time in the Wilderness.
